What Kind of Crocheter Are You? Do You Like to Follow a Pattern Exactly as it’s Written? Do You Like to “Wing it” and Make Things Up as You Go? Are You a Little Bit of Both?

I guess I would say that I am a little bit of both depending on what I’m working on. More often than not though, I need some kind of pattern to work of off in order to understand what the finished project will look like. I’m always in search of the next pattern (I’m a little bit of a pattern hoarder), and I like to see what other people come up with before I begin.

However, I do like to “wing it” when it comes to simple patterns. I crochet for charity sometimes, so I’ll make up a simple pattern. If I’m making a pet mat, I usually make one large double crochet square and I’m done. Sometimes, to change it up, I’ll work in the back loop only and give the pet mat a nice ridge effect. The same can be applied if I’m making dishcloths. I usually have a simple pattern in mind when I make them.

I am also thinking about trying to design my own patterns at some point as I feel this will help with my creativity. I want to experiment with different color combinations and be able to come up with different stitches in my own patterns. It might not happen right away, but somewhere down the line I would like to experiment with creating my own crochet patterns.

Now I’m going to ask you the same question: What kind of crocheter are you? Leave a comment and tell me all about it. I’d love to hear from you!

I wish I could work without patterns. I would eventually like to design my own patterns but my creativity hasn’t reached that point yet. For now I definitely need a well written pattern or in depth video to follow.
